Hawick retain league title
Stirling County 3-32 Hawick

Hawick retained the BT Scotland Premiership Division One championship by one point thanks to a four-try victory over Stirling County on Sunday.

Centre Gavin Douglas scored a try in the third minute of injury-time to give them an outright lead in the title race over runners-up Boroughmuir.

Stirling made it tough for the visitors in the first half when they were restricted to a 6-3 lead, a penalty from Ian Noble proving to be their only score of the game.

However, the Greens dominated the set-pieces in the second half and scored tries through Nicky Walker and Nick Martin before Douglas added the final two scores to the delight of the huge travelling support.

Hawick's other points came from three Neil Stenhouse penalties and a dropped goal by Gavin Douglas.

Hawick captain Kevin Reid was obviously delighted at the final whistle.

"It's been a great season so far and it's not over yet," he said.

"We've still got the cup to go and it would be great to make it a double."

Coach Greg Oliver was understandably proud of his players.

"It's tremendous, a great feeling and I think we'll be having a few beers tonight," he said.

In the day's other game, Currie beat Kirkcaldy 23-19.

Currie's three tries came from Rutherford, who also scored two penalties, Longley and Shaw. Duncan added two conversions.

Kirkcaldy, who are already relegated, replied with tries from MacDonald and Pearson, while Gilmour kicked three penalties.
