The Claymores season starts against Barcelona

The Scottish Claymores have been allocated National Football League quarterbacks Scott Dreisbach and Bart Hendricks for the forthcoming NFL Europe League season.

Detroit Lion Dreisbach and San Diego Charger Hendricks are two of a record 39 NFL players allocated to the Scots for the new campaign, which starts in April.

Dreisbach previously gained NFL experience with Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills, while Hendricks was a star at Boise State University.

Former Claymore Hurley Tarver returns after being allocated by the Green Bay Packers, the cornerback having been part of the 2000 squad who reached the World Bowl, only to be edged out by Rhein Fire.

Super Bowl champions New England Patriots have allocated British-born wide receiver Scott McCready to Gene Dahlquist's side after their shock victory over favourites St Louis Rams in New Orleans a fortnight ago.

The Rams have sent linebacker Michael Hawkes and safety Willie Gary to Scotland.

The 26-year-old Dreisbach said: "This is a great stepping stone as the NFL Europe League is renowned for giving valuable playing time experience.

"I've not been able to test myself fully by only playing a few pre-season games with the Lions, so I'm looking forward to coming over to the Claymores."

Big season

Claymores head coach Dahlquist was delighted with the players allocated to his team.

He said: "Our wide receiver core is stronger than last year and we have good talent in running back positions too.

"Our quarterbacks are quality athletes and we're looking forward to them enjoying a big season in Scotland.

"We feel good about the players we have assembled and can't wait to get down to work with them at training camp in Tampa next month."

Claymores general manager Steve Livingstone added: "After this record allocation from the NFL teams, our fans can look forward to an even greater quality of play and player this year."

Claymores start their season with a home game against World Bowl runners-up Barcelona Dragons at Hampden Park on 14 April.
