Advocaat blasts own players
Dynamo celebrate Rolan Gusev's late goal
Dynamo celebrate Rolan Gusev's late goal
Rangers manager Dick Advocaat has lambasted his players for losing a late goal to Dinamo Moscow at Ibrox by being greedy.

A stoppage-time strike by Rolan Gusev turned what would have been a healthy three-goal lead into a tight one that gives the Russians the benefit of an away goal.

Advocaat was incensed that his players had not been able to shut up shop at a crucial time.

"I'm not happy with that late goal," he said. "It is quite simple. It's not the first time either.

"The second year in the Champions League, the third year in the Champions League - we had a lot of chances to go through to the second round and we still make the same mistake.

There is nothing left for us but to attack in Moscow
Alexander Novikov
"We have enough experience in the team who can handle this sort of situation.

"At 3-0 with three minutes to go, you close it down, kill off the game and you win 3-0.

"But some players like to try for 4-0."

A late goal conceded to Monaco had ended last season's Champions League group stage campaign with just minutes to go and Advocaat was clearly irked that his side had been proven vulnerable once again.

But he could not explain why his players were so afflicted.

He said: "I can't understand why they open their system."

Dinamo coach Alexander Novikov also reckoned Gusev's goal had given his side a real chance of winning the tie.

"Of course I would say that 3-0 would be a worse result for us," he said.

"It would be more difficult to pull it off in Moscow.

"Now I feel we have a chance. We have nothing to lose now but we only have a chance if we improve our game.

"We will try our best to pull it off and there is nothing left for us but to attack in Moscow."

Rangers defender Craig Moore had been injured setting up Lorenzo Amoruso's ninth-minute opener and went off at half-time.

The extent of the problem was yet unknown.

"At half time he had headaches and pain in his neck, but I can't say exactly how bad it is," he said.
