No Burchill deal: Kerr on trial
Mark Burchill is available for transfer
Mark Burchill is available for transfer
Mark Burchill's agent has dismissed suggestions that the Scotland striker has completed a move to Portsmouth.

But Celtic colleague Stewart Kerr is on his way to England, on trial with Wigan Athletic.

Reports had suggested that Burchill's £1m switch had been completed with the English First Division club.

But agent Blair Morgan told BBC Scotland that the two clubs were continuing to talk but are still a long way from coming to an agreement.

Burchill was last season on loan with First Division Birmingham City and Premiership outfit Ipswich Town.

View to loan deal

He and Kerr have failed to claim a regular place under Martin O'Neill at Celtic Park.

Stewart Kerr: slipped to fourth choice
Stewart Kerr: slipped to fourth choice
Kerr has played 40 times for Celtic since 1993 but has now slipped to fourth choice goalkeeper.

The 26-year-old has travelled south to train with Paul Jewell's Wigan with a view to a loan deal.

Jewell said: "We are having a look at Stuart over the next couple of days with the possibility of taking him on loan.

"Having a young lad like Scott Tynan on the bench for the first team every week isn't ideal.

"I don't mean any disrespect to Scott, but we need someone a bit more experienced.

Raided the SPL

"It's almost impossible to find a good goalkeeper at the moment, although we do get a lot of faxes every day."

Kerr does not yet have clearance to play in the reserves.

He previously spent time on loan with Second Division rivals Brighton and has been linked with permanent moves to Cardiff City, Energie Cottbus and Hearts.

Wigan's only experienced goalkeeper is former Aberdeen No.1 Derek Stillie.

Athletic have already raided the Scottish Premier League this year to sign Lee McCulloch, Stephen McMillan and Ged Brannan from Motherwell, plus Jason de Vos from Dundee United.
