BBC Sport Online's Stuart Hughes reviews the weekend's ice hockey action.

Saturday's games:

Nottingham Panthers 2-3 Ayr Scottish Eagles (after over-time)

Nottingham's attempts to revive their season continued to founder as Ayr fought back from 2-1 down to condemn the Panthers to their third straight defeat.

Although there were no goals in the opening period, there was no shortage of action and Eagles defenceman Trevor Doyle was ejected by referee Moray Hanson for excessive roughness.

David Struch quickly responded to a goal by Jan Mikel at 28:54 and, in the 38th minute, Nottingham skipper Jamie Leach fired the Panthers into the lead with a one-timer into the roof of the net.

Despite putting pressure on the Eagles in the final period, Cam Bristow deflected a strike by Jonathan Weaver to force overtime during which the Superleague's top points scorer of all time, Tony Hand, grabbed the game-winner.

Sunday's Games:

Ayr Scottish Eagles 2-3 Cardiff Devils

The Devils continued to show improvements in their away game.

Steve Moria struck on the power play in the eighth minute, but Cardiff's lead was cancelled out when Teeder Wynne burst through the Devils' defence to score.

Tony Hand put the Scottish side ahead early in the second period, but a power play tally from recent Czech signing Ales Zima - his first for the Devils - was followed at 32:26 by an even-handed marker from Cardiff's leading points scorer Steve Thornton.

The Eagles worked hard to try to get back on terms in the final period, but Cardiff held them off until the buzzer.
