Regions and WRU plot path forward

Welsh rugby

Wales' regions and the Welsh Rugby Union have agreed a format to continue discussions on future co-operation.

Earlier this week the four regions rejected the WRU's latest draft of a new participation agreement.

It has now been agreed to carry on with the terms and conditions of the current agreement for five years from 1 June.

But all parties have "agreed that discussions will now take place to formulate variations to the agreement" for the benefit of regions and country.

The new, rejected participation agreement had been under discussion between the two parties since last June.

Last week Regional Rugby Wales pledged to release players for the national team's summer tour to north America.

In October the WRU won a High Court order for the regions to release players for training ahead of the November Test against South Africa.
