Alex Codling has also coached London Welsh and Ebbw Vale
Former England lock Alex Codling is the new head coach of Cardiff RFC after the summer departure of Justin Burnell to the regional Blues side.
Codling has accepted the part-time role after resolving matters with his current employers at a Surrey school.
The 35-year-old won the Premiership coach of the year award when he took Ebbw Vale to a second-place finish.
"Alex is a very no nonsense coach and has a 'hands on' approach to rugby," said team manager Gafyn Cooper.
"That is exactly what we were looking for."
Codling's playing career included spells with Neath and Harlequins.
He will work alongside backs coach and former Wales fly-half Lee Jarvis, along with long-serving forwards coach Howard Stone.
