WRU Challenge Cup gets makeover

WRU Challenge Cup

Wales' premier domestic knock-out cup has a new name and format for 2008/9.

The Welsh Rugby Union Challenge Cup will be known as the Swalec Cup next season, the energy suppliers taking over sponsorship from Konica Minolta.

The competition will be transformed into a three-tier tournament, with Cup, Plate and Bowl winners.

The Plate will be competed for by clubs knocked out in the first and second rounds of the Cup, the Bowl by teams beaten in the first round of the Plate.
