Llanelli Scarlets and Jon Thiel have agreed to end the Canadian Test prop's contract by mutual consent.
The former Bridgend player arrived at Stradey Park in November 2003, after failing to win a place with the now defunct Celtic Warriors regional side.
The 29-year-old's deal was up at the end of this season, but a serious calf injury has ruled him out of playing.
"I'm very thankful for my time at Stradey Park, I only wish it could have lasted longer," Thiel said.
Scarlets chief executive Stuart Gallacher paid tribute to the prop: "Jon's presence on the field and his cheerful demeanour off it played an important part in our success last season.
"His injury came as a disappointment to both Jon and ourselves and brought his time with us to a premature end."
