Scarlet win galvanises year
Scott Quinnell celebrates at Stradey Park
Scarlets coach Gareth Jenkins said that winning the Celtic League made up for their Heineken Cup disappointment.

"We've galvanised our season, sent Stephen Jones off with a smile and given the fans a great occasion," he said after the 23-16 win over Ulster.

"The scenes at Stradey Park demonstrate what we have been growing here over the years.

"It was something special, emotional. Ulster are a stubborn, quality team and we enjoyed the encounter."

Jenkins said that the hard-nosed approach of the Irishmen forced a rethink of tactics at half-time.

"We had to change," Jenkins told BBC Sport Wales. "We set out to play a certain way but Ulster were unrelenting and their rush defence was brilliant.

"The pack got a lot more into the game in the second period, we changed the tempo, got our points when they counted and built a score.

It means so much to everyone involved to win
Scarlets fly-half Stephen Jones
"I feel that the balance of our squad has been the key to the season.

"Our young players have had a big year, and when it's mattered our internationals have stood up to be counted."

Scarlets fly-half Stephen Jones, playing his last game for the Llanelli side before moving to Montferrand, was caught up in the emotion of the occasion.

"This is a great feeling - it means so much to everyone involved to win," he said, after contributing 18 points to the Scarlets' cause.

"We got going a bit in the second half and our forwards were involved a bit more, and it enabled us to gain some crucial scores.

"The support we've had this season has been superb, and I've had a great eight years here. The team spirit is awesome."
