Arwel seals Warriors deal
Arwel Thomas
Arwel Thomas will return to Wales next season after agreeing a one-year contract with the Celtic Warriors.

The former Wales fly-half has been playing in Pau for the past season, but has had his French experience blighted by injury.

The former Swansea player missed out on a regional contract last year after being snubbed by the Ospreys.

With so many Welsh players being linked with French clubs, Thomas has bucked the trend by returning home.

Wales record try scorer Gareth Thomas is close to agreeing a transfer to Toulouse, Montferrand are chasing Wales and Scarlets fly-half Stephen Jones, while Wales and Ospreys wing Shane Williams is also being courted across the Channel.

Thomas' wife, who is expecting their second child, has already returned to Wales and Thomas hopes to rejoin his family soon.

"All my furniture is being shipped back to south Wales and hopefully I will be joining it in a few weeks' time," said Thomas.

Ceri Sweeney will be the first-choice fly-half at the Warriors after Neil Jenkins' retirement at the end of the season, but Thomas will have designs on making the No 10 shirt his own.

There was also a boost at fly-half for Llanelli Scarlets, after Gareth Bowen agreed to sign a new two-year contract to stay at Stradey Park.

It is especially welcome news given that Wales fly-half Jones has stalled over re-signing while he considers offers from England and France.
