Celtic League title hopefuls Munster had too much pace, power and savvy for Border Reivers at Netherdale.

Stuart Moffat, Simon Danielli and James King all grabbed tries for Reivers, with Calum MacRae adding the other points with his boot.

But the Irish visitors were the more clinical at converting pressure.

Denis Fogarty, twice, Christian Cullen, David Wallace and Ian Dowling scored their tries, with Jeremy Manning and Ronan O'Gara kicking the other points.

The Scots were level in terms of possession and territory, but it was Munster who kept alive their Celtic League title dream.

They had surged ahead after less than two minutes.

Hooker Fogarty displayed his power to brush off two challenges before flopping over the line from close range, giving Manning a simple conversion.

Reivers' MacRae smacked a penalty against the post before replying with his next attempt.

But Manning slotting a 35-metre penalty awarded for obstruction.

MacRae bagged three more for the Borders - only for Munster to shock the home fans with two more tries in quick succession.

Fogarty completed his double when he was propelled across the line by his pack-mates in the aftermath of a line-out.

Then former All Black Cullen marked his comeback from injury with an opportunist score following great work by Mike Mullens.

Manning added both goals, but the Reivers kept their hopes alive when full-back Moffat slid in after taking a feed from Nikky Walker. MacRae converted.

There was still enough time for Manning to keep up his fine record with the boot by clipping over another penalty.

Danielli gave Borders fresh hope with a 45-metre touchdown three minutes after the restart.

But any prospects of a fightback were dashed when Wallace and Dowling bagged further tries for Munster - both goaled by substitute O'Gara.

Borders had the last word when King sneaked over, with MacRae converting.
