Leinster held off a strong Glasgow challenge to win Friday's Celtic League encounter at Donnybrook.

David Holwell's early try helped Leinster to a 15-3 interval lead with Shane Jennings also having notched a first half touchdown for the home team.

Glasgow fought back to cut Leinster's lead to 15-13 helped by Colin Shaw's try and a Calvin Howarth penalty.

However, Ben Gissing's try extended Leinster's lead although Howarth's late penalty ensured a Glasgow bonus point.

Fly-half Holwell's fourth minute touchdown was his first Leinster try since joining the province from Wellington.

A neat inside pass from his half-back partner Brian O'Meara enabled the Kiwi to score in the right corner, past the challenges of Shaw and winger Rory Kerr.

Holwell's conversion and 27th-minute penalty - after Glasgow had infringed at a ruck - gave the hosts a 12-point lead at the break.

Glasgow had conceded a second try to Leinster flanker Shane Jennings just before the quarter-hour although Holwell missed the conversion.

Three minutes later Howarth punished a home offside with Glasgow's first points.

With substitute scrum-half Sam Pinder on the field for the ineffective Graeme Beveridge, the visitors improved in the second half.

After Holwell had missed a 40-metre effort to extend Leinster's lead, Howarth narrowed the gap with his second penalty on 55 minutes.

Glasgow's try came in the 72nd minute with Shaw dancing clear after initial breaks by Cammy Mather and captain Kenny Logan, for Howarth to convert to reduce Leinster's lead to 15-13 deficit.

But Glasgow's good work was undone when Gissing was mauled over six minutes later to hand Leinster their 11th straight success at their Dublin home.

Howarth's late penalty did ensure a Glasgow bonus point.
