Fine start pleases Harris

By Iestyn Harris
Wales international

It was a great job done against Canada and a great way to get our World Cup campaign underway.

Everyone was a bit nervous going into this game because it was a long-time waiting for this to come along.

But once we got into the game after about 15-20 minutes we settled down, played some good rugby despite making a lot of mistakes and got the five points on offer.

The bonus point for scoring four tries could prove crucial in the group but your first goal is to secure the win.

It's an exciting time to be a Wales player

Once we got in front we started to open up a little and scored some good tries - if we can just cut out some of the scrappy handling errors we had then we'll be a dangerous side.

It's just a matter of fact that nobody has played for six weeks leading up to the competition and in the first round everyone is ring rusty - and that includes us.

If you look at all the games so far, even Australia in the first game made a lot of scrappy errors.

The team spirit in the Wales side is very good, we've gone through some tough times together and players who go through that are usually a lot stronger when they come out the other end.

We're starting to see the end of the tunnel and things are starting to turn the tide for us - it's an exciting time to be a Wales player at the moment.

I'm enjoying it at the moment, we're playing some good football and our forwards are playing really well.

Canada are a strong, physical side but credit to our forwards for taking them on and making sure that we can play well in the backs.

We'll enjoy the night now, relax together and just enjoy the victory - you've got to do that - but tomorrow it'll be back down to some hard work and preparing for Tonga next week.
