Redpath will now have his chance to shine on the biggest stage after few opportunities four yeas ago.
In 1999, the Sale number nine was only called up for the games against minnows Spain and Uruguay.
He captained the team on that occasion and will do so for the duration of this tournament, injury permitting.
At 32, Redpath has progressed into one of the world's best scrum-halves.
A niggly opposite number, he passes beautifully, reads the game well and has been instrumental when Scotland have shone.
He will be keen to do his utmost in what will surely be his final World Cup.
