The choice of Sean Furter as captain was a huge surprise to the team and even to the players concerned.
Controversial Namibia coach Dave Waterston picked the robust number eight ahead of regular captain Corné Powell to lead the 'Welwitschias' into the 2003 Rugby World Cup.
But the 26-year-old is an experienced member of the team, having taken part in the tournament four years ago.
And his influence on the pitch cannot be denied
A good runner who can make something out of nothing, Furter is always one of the first to get there when play breaks down.
In July, he impressed with a dynamic display against a strong South Africa 'A' team in Windhoek where Namibia were competitive before going down 25-9.
