Ulster suffer their second successive defeat in the Magners League as Munster clinch victory at Ravenhill
Ulster (6) 6
Penalties: Pienaar 2
Munster (3) 16
Tries: Dineen Cons: Warwick Pens: Warwick 3
A last minute try from Ivan Dineen sealed victory for the Magners League leaders against their Irish rivals.
Ulster dominated the first half but they only led 6-3 at the break after two Ruan Pienaar penalties.
Paul Warwick levelled just after the restart and the fly-half converted his third penalty to put Munster ahead with nine minutes left.
Pienaar pushed a penalty just wide before Dineen pounced on an Ulster error and sprinted clear to the line.
Both teams were without their Irish internationals for a game played in tough conditions, with a blustery wind and wet surface making handling difficult.
Ulster dominated the first half with the wind on their backs, but they failed to turn their territorial superiority into a commanding half-time advantage.
Mark McCrea was inches away from catching Ian Humphreys' cross-field pass which would have produced a certain try.
Referee Alan Lewis had already awarded a penalty and Pienaar converted to give the hosts a seventh minute lead.
Warwick responded with a penalty after a rare Munster attack but Ulster were back in front on 16 minutes as Pienaar slotted over with ease.
Pienaar sent his 33rd minute penalty effort wide as Ulster went in at the break frustrated at failing to break down a resolute Munster defence.
Munster were level within three minutes of the restart thanks to a Warwick penalty.
The second half developed into a tight contest and it remained 6-6 until Warwick sent over a 71st minute penalty.
Pienaar had a chance to equalise six minutes later but the South Africa pushed his penalty wide.
The only try came in the final minute, with Humphreys failing to hold a Pienaar pass and Dineen picked up the loose ball before running clear to touch down under the posts.
Warwick added the conversion with the final kick of the game to seal a hard-earned victory for the visitors.
Ulster coach Brian McLaughlin:
"We did a good job in the first half but didn't get points on the board when we needed them.
"In the second half we were trying to chase the game, we make an error and throw away the bonus point - it's exceptionally disappointing.
"Against Munster you have to take your chances. They took theirs when it opened up for them."
