Matt Williams had been in charge of Ulster for 17 months

Ulster are understood to be confident that they will have identified their next Director of Rugby by Friday. If all goes to plan, Ravenhill officials hope to be able to announce Matt Williams' successor next week. Ballynahinch's Brian McLaughlin, former Scotland coach Frank Hadden and ex-Bristol chief Richard Hill have all been linked with the vacancy. Williams resigned in May after 17 months in charge, saying he wanted more time with his family in Australia. There has been speculation that former Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan might be interested in the position, even though he recently took over as coach of the USA national team. Connacht's Michael Bradley is another whose name has been mentioned as a possible contender. The bulk of the Ulster squad returns on 15 June to start pre-season training.
