Ulster have completed the signing of Italian international lock Carlo del Fava on a two-year contract.
Del Fava will provide more competition in the second row
The 25-year-old joins Ulster from French club Bourgoin and has previously played for Parma and Natal Sharks.
Del Fava has won 16 caps, having made his debut for Italy in the final game of the 2004 Six Nations against Wales.
"Carlo is a talented, physical lock and a dynamic prospect. He provides extra competition for places in the second row," said Ulster coach Mark McCall.
Del Fava was born in South Africa to an Italian father and played in all five games for Italy in the 2005 Six Nations championship.
"This is a new challenge for me and I am keen to try and earn a place in the team and play some good rugby," he said.
Ulster had already announced the signing of two Scottish international threequarters with Rob Dewey and Simon Danielli due to link up at the end of the season while Seamus Mallon returns to the fold from Northampton.
