Sale Sharks have signed Scotland prop Alasdair Dickinson from Gloucester.

The 27-year-old, who has won 19 caps for his country, arrived at Kingsholm in 2007 and made 72 appearances, scoring three tries.

Executive director of sport Steve Diamond said: "Alasdair is another great signing for us.

"He has a very high work rate, is a good scrummager and will fit in perfectly with what we are trying to achieve at the club."

The club also announced centre Jonny Kennedy has been forced to retire on medical advice after a series of concussions.

Kennedy, 21, is the son of Sharks owner Brian Kennedy and represented Scotland Under-20s at the Junior Rugby World Cup in 2010.

"We are really disappointed for Jonny as he had fought his way back from a knee injury and was hitting form," Diamond said.

"It's sad when a young player like Jonny has to leave the sport, but his health is more important and he has made the correct decision."
