Hodgson came on as a replacement during the defeat by South Africa
Sale and England fly-half Charlie Hodgson will be out until the new year with a broken foot.
The 30-year-old suffered the injury during England's defeat by South Africa last month.
A statement from Sale said: "He's likely to be out of action until well into the new year."
That could make him a serious doubt for the Six Nations with England set to announce their Elite Player Squad for the competition in January.
Hodgson's absence adds to the injury problems at Edgeley Park where Eifion Roberts, Neil Briggs, David Seymour, Tom Brady, Aston Croall and skipper James Gaskell are all currently out of action.
Hodgson was recalled to the senior England squad last month for the first time in two years to replace the injured Jonny Wilkinson.
He won his first cap since June 2008 when he came on as a replacement in the victory over Australia.
