Shane Williams keen to stay at Ospreys despite offers

Record Wales try-scorer Shane Williams says he is keen to stay with Ospreys despite revealing he has had offers to leave the Magners League champions.

Wales centre Gavin Henson has already left the star-studded Welsh region and James Hook will follow in the summer.

The Ospreys are open to bids for Wales full-back Lee Byrne, while Williams is out of contract in the summer.

The star wing admits: "There are always offers and other teams who are after you. But I'm quite a loyal person."

Wales' record try-scorer, 33, already admits this year's Rugby World Cup will be his international swansong, but believes he has two years left in his playing career.

Williams, who has been at the Ospreys since their formation in 2003, is in contract negotiations with the Swansea-based region and wants to remain at the club despite their failure to qualify for the Heineken Cup quarter-finals this season.

The 2008 International Rugby Board Player of the Year, whose current three-year Ospreys deal expires in the summer, would like a coaching role at the club when he retires from playing altogether.

I do want to achieve things whether it is in the next two years while I'm playing or perhaps if I get any involvement behind the scenes, I would like to win things for the Ospreys

Team-mate Hook is set for a big-money move to France when his Ospreys contract runs out at the end of the season with European champions Toulouse and rivals Perpignan battling to sign him.

And Byrne, another Lions and Wales star, has been linked with a move to one of France's super-rich clubs in the summer after Ospreys boss Scott Johnson revealed the region would be open to offers for their experienced full-back.

Double-Grand Slam winner Williams, record try-scorer for both club and country, has also been linked with a move to France, in particular Toulon.

But he told BBC Sport: "I am in talks with the Ospreys and I'm looking to stay at the Ospreys.

"I want to be playing for the Ospreys, or a club, going into the World Cup year and afterwards as well.

"I've had a great time here and first of all with Neath.

"And I do want to achieve things whether it is in the next two years while I'm playing or perhaps if I get any involvement behind the scenes, I would like to win things for the Ospreys.

"It's probably the most important contract I'm going to sign. I have got to think of my future. It's an important time for me.

"I'm still enjoying my rugby, still playing well - apart from the injury I've had - and I'm still feeling like a 20-year-old. I don't know how long that is going to last.

"In rugby terms I have probably got two years left as far as a contract is concerned.

"Even if there is some kind of capacity working with the Ospreys after I have finished playing, that would be great.

"I am an Osprey and my blood is black - but we'll have to wait and see."

Williams has scored 51 tries in 75 Wales internationals and touched down 54 times in 126 Ospreys games.

He is set to make his return from surgery on his dislocated shoulder in Saturday's Heineken Cup pool clash with Toulon.
