Northampton Saints have stepped up a level - Diggin

Hard work paid off for Saints - Diggin

Northampton Saints wing Paul Diggin believes his side have stepped up a level over the last 12 months.

Friday's win over Edinburgh in the Heineken Cup means Saints have matched last year's quarter-final showing, when they were beaten by Munster.

But this time around they go through as Pool winners rather than runners-up.

"I think we've come up another notch, we were a good team last year and we're kicking on and getting a lot better," Diggin told BBC Radio Northampton.

The 25-year-old scored four of Northampton's tries as they overcame Edinburgh 37-0 at Franklin's Gardens.

After the disappointment of back-to-back Premiership defeats by Harlequins and Leicester, Diggin hopes Saints have regained their winning touch.

"It's just accuracy, that's what we need in these quarter-finals, cutting the mistakes out," he said.

"We were creating the chances and we weren't identifying them at the right time and moving the ball.

"People weren't doing 100% what they were being told to do, with guys being too keen half the time.

"That's something we addressed and against Leicester we didn't play badly, they played very well and it's a tough place to go and win."
