Christian Day aims to prove his worth at Northampton

Day hails 'fantastic' forward pack

Northampton lock Christian Day says he wants to show people what he can do, after a season disrupted by injury.

The 27-year-old was stretchered off with a neck injury at the end of the Heineken Cup pool clash with Munster, and missed the rest of last season.

"Being injured for that period of time makes you hungrier to succeed, to make people recognise you can do things as well," Day told BBC Look East.

"I've had a good start but let's hope I can keep it up."

Day was behind Juandre Kruger in the first choice XV last season, and he wants to build on the success the South African had in that position for Saints before rejoining Super 14 side Bulls in the summer.

"Juandre brought some different ideas into the team, and certainly at the lineout," he said.

"Hopefully we're continuing that and developing ourselves, and so far it's been very successful."

Saints lie second in the Aviva Premiership, after a run of matches which included fixtures against the three other sides in last season's semi-finals.

"We've won twice, so we're pretty happy with that," said Day.

"You look at games that are very difficult to win away, and Saracens is definitely one of them.

"So the big thing for us was getting a bonus point. In years gone by, we might not have done that."
