Buist hails Newcastle camaraderie

Newcastle Falcons forward Andy Buist has hailed the camaraderie within the squad and believes that bond will help the club improve this season.

Falcons endured a largely miserable 2007-08 campaign, finishing second bottom in the Premiership but Buist is optimistic of brighter times ahead.

"We've got a good team ethic and we've got everyone playing for each other," he told BBC Radio Newcastle.

"We find that if we play together then we can beat any side."

Forwards have usually played a background role in Falcons sides over the last decade with backs such as Jonny Wilkinson, Toby Flood and Mathew Tait stealing the limelight.

However under head coach Steve Bates and his assistant Alan Tait, Falcons have adopted a more physical, forward line approach and Buist is enjoying the pack's new-found responsibility.

"There's always been a big emphasis on backs play at Newcastle but as forwards we like to be up there attack the other packs," he said.

"We feel that we're big enough and good enough to compete with any of the packs in the Premiership."
