England fly-half Jonny Wilkinson has resumed light training as he seeks to regain fitness after a kidney problem.
Wilkinson could be fit to return to action in February
The 27-year-old, who suffered a lacerated kidney in Newcastle's win over Bristol in November, could return to first-team action in two months.
"We haven't put a date on it, but realistically it may be some time during the Six Nations," said Falcons director of rugby John Fletcher.
"He is in a great frame of mind and also in fantastic condition."
Injury-plagued Wilkinson, who has not represented England since the 2003 World Cup final, was playing his first game after two months out with a knee injury.
He played the full 80 minutes in the win over Bristol but believes he suffered the injury just 20 minutes into the match.
Wilkinson has suffered a long and varied series of injuries, including shoulder nerve, biceps, appendicitis, groin and, earlier this season, knee ligament problems.
