Johne Murphy attempts to break down the Toulon defence of Laurent Emmanuelli and Joe van Niekerk
Munster bounced back from last week's defeat at the hands of London Irish by securing a bonus-point victory in their Heineken Cup pool game at Thomond Park.
Tries from Denis Leamy, Tony Buckley and Doug Howlett helped the Irish province to a 21-10 half-time lead.
Mick O'Driscoll, Howlett and James Coughlan added further tries and Ronan O'Gara kicked a total of 15 points.
Jean-Philippe Genevois and Joe van Niekerk scored tries for Toulon who were outclassed for most of the match.
Felipe Contepomi kicked a penalty and a conversion while Jonny Wilkinson added a long-range drop goal after entering the fray in the second half.
Genevois powered over for the opening try in the second minute after Contepomi's short pass had unlocked the home defence, van Niekerk drew the cover and Genevois was in support to thunder over from the 22. O'Gara converted.
Contepomi converted to make it 7-0 but Australian flanker George Smith was yellow-carded five minutes later for hands in the ruck after a previous warning from referee Wayne Barnes.
Peter Stringer picked from the base and darted to the right before passing back inside for Leamy to muscle over for a try, O'Gara converting.
Contepomi missed with a penalty attempt but then tackled Johne Murphy as he crossed the line, doing just enough to push the centre into touch.
Buckley was adjudged not to have crossed the line by the television match official but dived over for Munster's second try a minute later, lunging his way over the top of a ruck from a couple of metres out. O'Gara added the two points.
A Contepomi penalty brought the visitors to within four points but Howlett burrowed over from a close-range ruck with five minutes of the half remaining, O'Gara adding the two points.
Former Leinster fly-half Contepomi missed with a penalty attempt in the final minute of the half.
O'Gara was narrowly off-target with a penalty effort early in the second half but made amends with a successful penalty soon after.
Replacement Wilkinson reduced the deficit with a well struck drop goal but O'Driscoll secured the bonus point victory with his 58th-minute try, O'Gara converting.
The Irish fly-half then set up Howlett to score in the corner with a delightfully executed cross-field kick, adding his fifth conversion to increase Munster's advantage.
Van Niekerk dived over in the corner for Toulon's second try with six minutes remaining.
Coughlan scrambled over between the posts for Munster's sixth try in the closing minutes, O'Gara completing his 100% record from six conversion kicks.
