Ibanez named as new Wasps captain

Ibanez joined Wasps from Saracens in the summer of 2005

Wasps have named hooker Raphael Ibanez as their new club captain for the 2008/09 season.

The 35-year-old takes over as skipper from Lawrence Dallaglio who retired at the end of last season.

Ibanez arrived at the club in 2005 and has since helped Wasps to honours in the Powergen Cup in 2006, Heineken Cup in 2007 and Premiership last May.

The former France skipper is the most capped international hooker with 98 appearances for Les Blues.

Ibanez made 17 appearances with the Premiership winning side in 2007/08, bringing his club total to 60 and points total to 65.

He reaffirmed his commitment to Wasps last season, extending his contract to remain with the club until the close of 2008/09.
