Hewat played in the 2005 Super 12 Final for the Waratahs
London Irish full-back Peter Hewat believes his side can surprise favourites Leicester Tigers to win the Premiership title.
The Exiles reached the Twickenham final for the first time in their history after beating Harlequins 17-0.
When asked if they can win, Hewat told BBC Berkshire: "Most definitely, yes.
"Obviously we're going into the game as underdogs. It's going to be a great occasion and we're going to enjoy our time there and can get another win."
He continued: "Leicester have been the best team all year. They have a world-class squad and we're going to have to play even better than against Quins to win."
Hewat played in a Super 12 final for New South Wales Waratahs but expects the Twickenham final to be even bigger.
"That was in front of only 50,000, not 80,000 supporters. It's going to be an awesome occasion not only for myself but every one of the London Irish players and supporters," he said.
"We haven't been there before so it'll be a great experience and a chance to make some history."
He also paid tribute to the young stars who helped the Exiles reach the final.
"We've got some young guys in the team who haven't played play-off rugby. The enthusiasm and the composure those guys showed was awesome," he said.
"We had to stick to our guns - stick to what Toby's been drilling into us all week - and we knew we'd come up trumps. We probably bombed another three tries as well, so it could have been an even better score."
London Irish v Leicester Tigers kicks off at 1730 on Saturday is live on BBC Radio Berkshire.
