Leicester Tigers' new centre Anthony Allen says he cannot wait for the start of the new season at Welford Road.

The 22-year-old was released by Gloucester in May and signed for their Premiership rivals last week.

"Gloucester have taken me a long way and I'm really proud of what happened there," Allen told BBC Radio Leicester.

"But it's a new start and a new challenge for me, and there's lots of competition here. I think fighting for that Tigers shirt is going to be key."

Allen was immediately impressed by the set-up and the facilities at Welford Road, and is relishing the chance to get involved in such a prestigious side.

I've spoken to a few players and they said it's always a bit weird going back there

"The quality they have in the team and the professional aspect they have as a club, it's a massive drive [for me]," he added.

Inevitably, Allen will come up against his old club over the course of the Premiership season, and he admitted that returning to Kingsholm in particular will be a nervous date in his diary.

"It's going to be a daunting day going back there," he said.

"I've spoken to a few players and they said it's always a bit weird going back there, but I'm looking forward to it and it should be an exciting day."
