Leeds had the better of the first half at Headingley

Leeds gave French giants Stade Francais a run for their money in their European Challenge Cup pool four clash before slipping to defeat at Headingley.

A Juan Gomez try helped Leeds to a 10-3 half-time lead, but Guillaume Bousses went over for Stade after the break.

The hosts kept pressing and were only trailing 16-13 with six minutes of the match remaining.

But the boot of Martin Rodriguez, who kicked four penalties, a conversion and a drop goal, secured victory for Stade.

A late penalty miss by Ceiron Thomas meant Leeds missed out on a losing bonus point.

Leeds director of rugby Andy Key said:

"We should have won. We've left some points on the field tonight.

"It's about improving on our performance week in week out, and we're now starting to put performances together.

"Against a side that are one of the best in Europe, we've run them very close, and not just run them close, but it should have been a win for us."
