Centre Scott Barrow signs new Leeds Carnegie contract

Centre Scott Barrow has signed a new two-year contract with Leeds Carnegie.

The 29-year-old has committed his future to the club just two days after England Saxons flanker Hendre Fourie also agreed a new deal.

"I'm very happy to have a new deal at Leeds. It's good to sort my future out," Barrow told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I had interest from a few other clubs but I always wanted to stay at Leeds and now want to help them stay in this league and build for the future."

Barrow originally joined the West Yorkshire side in 2008 from Glasgow Warriors and has played for Scotland A.

He began his career in rugby league with St Helens before leaving for union side Glasgow in 2004 and has also played for Worcester and Orrell.

"I've always want to stay here. We have progressed so much in the last 18 months under the new management team and I want to be apart of it going forward. It was only a matter of time before I signed this deal," explained Barrow.

"Even if we go down I'm committed to this club and feel it has a big future. We just need to ensure we stay up and then build on that.

"The buzz around the club made me want to stay, even before our current good run. There are no egos, everyone gets on. We all go out to lunch together as a squad and it's great to be a part of that.

"Everyone works very hard for each other here and that's something you want to be a part of. Hopefully more of the lads will follow suit and sign new deals with us soon."

Barrow missed Sunday's win over Wasps with a calf injury, but hopes to be fit for this Sunday's encounter with Saracens at Headingley.

"I'm in the 25-man squad for the weekend and hopefully will train for the rest of the week with no problems and then hopefully get the nod to play," he added.

"It's frustration to come back from my knee injury and then pick this up. But I think this calf problem is a cause of the knee injury. It's on the same leg and maybe I've been overcompensating on it.

"It's disappointing to miss the Wasps game and the boys are in a really good place at the moment so you want to be a part of that."
