Gloucester's Scotland international lock Jim Hamilton says he joined the club to enhance his chances of being involved in next year's World Cup.

The 27-year-old, who has 26 Scotland caps, signed for the Cherry and Whites in June from Edinburgh.

"There's a World Cup coming up and I wanted to challenge myself and be part of a big club again," Hamilton told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"I had these things in my mind and based my decision on that."

Hamilton, who spent five seasons at Leicester before joining Edinburgh in 2008, will vie for a spot in the second row with Dave Attwood, Alex Brown and Will James.

He is also joined at Gloucester by another ex-Tiger in Brett Deacon and sees similarities with his former club.

"The guys here are great, they're very motivated and train very, very hard," he said.

"It's not just with the lads but with the management and the fantastic stadium.

"People come up to you when you are out and about.

"It's a proud and passionate rugby place and you've got to do your job on the pitch and that will bounce off everyone else."
