Mark Bitcon arrived at Kingsholm from Scotland Rugby Union

Gloucester's fitness coach Mark Bitcon says he is relishing the chance to run the club's pre-season training regime. He missed the bulk of last year's preparations after joining from the Scottish Rugby Union. "I think a fitness coach always looks forward to pre-season," he told BBC Radio Gloucestershire. "That's the time when we get to spend prolonged periods with the players and really get to stamp our authority on how we want to take things forward." "It can be a lot easier in other sports when you're looking to peak at different times of the year, whereas we have to peak every week of the season. "Every week is important, you can't have down weeks and you can't treat games with less intensity because every team is capable of beating you in this league." With Gloucester looking to recover from a poor 2008/09 season, Bitcon hopes thorough preparation can improve the fortunes of the club. He said: "As the pre-season moves on it will become more individual and position specific. These guys have totally different roles on the field and I've got to try and maximise the potential in their individual roles."
