Scotland's Graeme Morrison faces Six Nation battle

Scotland centre Graeme Morrison is likely to miss the start of the Six Nations as he recovers from injury.

He was stretchered off with ligament damage during Glasgow Warriors' 1872 Cup first-leg win over Edinburgh.

Doctors expect the knee injury to keep him out for up to eight weeks, but he will seek a second opinion this week.

"I've been playing well this season, so to have this is a bit of a set back, but I'll just do my best to get back on the pitch," he told BBC Scotland.

Scotland's Six Nations opener in France on 5 February will certainly be too soon for Morrison, but he expects to play some part in the campaign.

"I like to think of myself as a quick healer," said the 28-year-old.

"I've done this on the other knee before and I was back before they predicted. I'm hoping it will be around six to eight weeks, which would give me a chance to play in some of the Six Nations."

With many of Glasgow Warriors first team likely to be involved in the Six Nations, Morrison is looking to the younger players to turn around their Magners League season.

"It's a good thing we're got quite a few international players in the team," he said ahead of Saturday's 22-20 defeat by Munster.

"It's great for the squad and for Scottish rugby, but it can weaken the team.

"That's why it's important the young guys coming through really front up in these periods and, when they're called upon, they do a job," said the 2003/04 signing from Glasgow Hawks.

"When they get it right, they can put together a real good performance. We've got to take it a game at a time and get back on a winning track - then the rest will fall into place."
