Former Bristol duo Luke Arscott and James Phillips have agreed new two-year contracts with the Exeter Chiefs.

Full-back Arscott and forward Phillips joined Exeter last summer after their promotion to the Premiership.

Arscott has been a regular starter for the Chiefs this term but Phillips has had to work his way back a broken leg that he suffered early in the season.

The pair join Richard Baxter, Gareth Steenson, James Scaysbrook and Haydn Thomas, who have recently signed deals.

Exeter head coach Rob Baxter told the club's website: "They have both come in and play well, and what's nice is that they can both improve as players.

"Very quickly after the [2010 Championship] play-off final we knew they were the couple of Bristol players we wanted to get.

"We were looking for a full-back for more of the season and Luke was always up there, it was a key position for our recruitment.

"With Richie [Baxter] having the injury he had when we were playing the finals, it was important we signed a number eight because we knew he wouldn't be fit for the start of the season.

"We had watched a lot of James at Bristol and it didn't take long to decide he was the player we wanted."
