Cardiff Blues prop Gary Powell cleared of stamping

Prop Powell penalised by referee

Cardiff Blues prop Gary Powell has been cleared of an alleged stamp in their New Year's Day loss at the Ospreys.

A Welsh Rugby Union disciplinary panel cleared the 30-year-old on Wednesday so he is free to play in Saturday's Magners League trip to Edinburgh.

The panel decided "the offence would not have justified a sending-off so no sanction was therefore appropriate."

Powell was sin-binned during the game by referee James Jones in a separate incident after a collapsed scrum.

The Ospreys won the Magners League derby game 26-0 at Liberty Stadium.
