Steve Meehan unworried by Bath results

Coach Steve Meehan is not concerned by Bath's mixed results so far this season and says he would prefer them to peak at the end of the campaign.

Bath currently lie sixth in the Premiership having won three and lost three of their opening six fixtures.

Meehan told BBC Radio Bristol: "You'd be happy to scratch by without playing perfectly well up to the end of March.

"If you've done a good enough job to put yourself in the frame at that time then you have a real opportunity."

He added: "It's a very long season. We have seen in the past sides getting out of the blocks very quickly and be in a good position at Christmas, then they crash and have a run of poor results as the others are building through.

"We're not going to be perfect every week, but if our effort, intensity, effort and competitiveness are there then we will give ourselves a chance."

After a poor start to last season, Bath had to rely on a run of 11 wins in 12 games to secure a place in the play-offs before their semi-final defeat by eventual champions Leicester Tigers.

They now travel to the Twickenham Stoop on Sunday to meet a Harlequins side who lie one place and one point behind them in the Premiership table.

"If we can win twice as many points before Christmas this season as we did last season and then finish in the same way it would be brilliant," said Meehan.

"Last season was quite remarkable but already this season we are in better shape.

"Now we go to a ground that we've always been very competitive at but it's time we won away at Harlequins."
