One place up for grabs - Meehan

Interview: Bath head coach Steve Meehan

Bath head coach Steve Meehan thinks the top three clubs should make the Premiership play-offs, leaving a three-way tussle for the final place.

"There's some important games there," Meehan told BBC Points West.

"Harlequins have got to play Sale this weekend, then they've got to go to Leicester next weekend."

"We'll see what happens, but Leicester have got a lot of experience when it comes to this end of the season and I wouldn't be surprised if they made it."

Naturally, Meehan is planning for his own side to qualify. Bath are at home to eighth-placed Saracens this weekend, followed by an away game at Gloucester who are currently top of the table.

And he feels that Danny Grewcock was spot-on with his suggestion that Steve Borthwick, Matt Stevens, Lee Mears and Michael Lipman have put themselves in the frame for England's trip to New Zealand with their performances of late.

"I think that there's anything between four and seven players who have got a foot on that plane - certainly the four from the pack that were a part of the Six Nations this year.

"If they take an outsider or a youngster they might want to blood Matt Banahan. Obviously Olly Barkley's had a good season and there's no other reasons to discount him now.

"And if they wanted somebody who might be able to take a couple of youngsters under his wing and teach them a few tricks then they might take Danny [Grewcock] as well. So we'll see what happens."
