Andrew Trimble will get a chance to impress Kidney in training
|
Ulster back Andrew Trimble is among 11 players added to the Ireland squad for the Test against New Zealand at Croke Park next Saturday.
Fellow Ulsterman Ryan Caldwell is also brought in by coach Declan Kidney along with Cian Healy, Malcolm O'Kelly, Denis Leamy and Girvan Dempsey.
Geordan Murphy, Ian Dowling, Bob Casey, Bernard Jackman and Tomas O'Leary complete the additions.
Ireland crushed Canada 55-0 on Saturday in Kidney's first game in charge.
The new faces will add to Kidney's selection headache for the meeting against the All Blacks in Dublin.
"It increases the number of people looking for starting places," he said.
"In some ways it makes it slightly more difficult, but difficult in a good way because you will have competition for places and that can allow you to prepare better for the following Saturday.
"We'll just review the video and see what the mix is going forward, but at least the size of the panel now is getting bigger.
"When you have that competition for places it's always good for players."
New Zealand showed their depth of talent by defeating Scotland 32-6 with a largely second-string side at Murrayfield on Saturday.
