Munster are making the Ospreys sweat on Celtic League honours after a hard-earned victory over Ulster at Musgrave Park on Friday night.

Winger John Kelly and former international flanker David Wallace scored first-half tries for Munster, with Paul Burke adding two penalties.

Ulster managed a bonus point through a Tommy Bowe opportunist try and Roger's Wilson effort in the opening period.

Munster ran the second half but could only add a third Burke penalty.

Burke nudged Munster ahead in the fourth minute with a straight-forward penalty, but Ulster surged ahead three minutes later.

Bowe, a late switch to full-back for the injured Bryn Cunningham, followed up his own Garryowen which baffled the Munster defence to collect for an easy try.

But once Gary Longwell was yellow-carded, Ulster were put under the cosh and winger Kelly was put clear to dive in for a try in the 15th minute.

Ulster were level three minutes later when Paddy Wallace, starting in place of Adam Larkin, landed a sweet drop goal from 40 metres.

There was then a flurry of scores in the run-up to the break. First number eight Wilson crashed over after the Ulster pack provided quick ruck ball with Wallace adding the conversion.

But Munster struck at the most opportune time four minutes into first-half added time.

Led by skipper Jim Williams, they put pressure on the Ulster defence and flanker David Wallace had acres of space to touch down, with Burke's conversion giving Munster the slender 18-15 interval lead.

In the second half, Ulster found it hard to get out of their own half due to their inability to keep possession and a very messy line-out.

However, it was a very stubborn defence that kept Munster at bay with Burke's short-ranged penalty the only score in the second period.
