New Zealand withstood a late rally by a determined Argentina side to claim victory in Saturday's one-off Test in Buenos Aires.
Argentina (16) 19
Pens: Todeschini (4)
New Zealand (15) 25
Tries: MacDonald, Carter, Hamilton
Cons: Carter (2)
Pens: Carter (2)
All Blacks fly-half Daniel Carter scored a try and kicked 10 points for his side in tricky conditions.
But he missed four kicks at goal as well as a midfield drop-goal attempt.
Backs Leon MacDonald and Scott Hamilton scored the other tries for the All Blacks while blind-side flanker Martin Durand went over for the Pumas.
Argentine fly-half Federico Todeschini also had trouble with his footing on the surface and missed four shots at goal. However, he managed to slot four penalties and a conversion for 14 points.
The All Blacks, fielding a completely different team from the one which beat Ireland in two Tests, were tested by the Pumas, who took inspiration from their football team's World Cup win over Mexico.
The visitors spent the last 10 minutes defending with 14 men after full-back Leon MacDonald was yellow-carded for fighting, but they managed to hold off the Pumas' challenge.
Argentina, who had Jose Maria Nunez Piossek yellow-carded, led 16-15 at the break but Hamilton, on his debut, got the crucial try in the 47th minute and the All Blacks were always ahead after that.
