Six Nations facts & figures
BBC Sport's guide to all the records and stats you need to know ahead of this year's Six Nations tournament.

Wales celebrate their Grand Slam success in 2005
Wales celebrate their Grand Slam
Wales defied recent precedent to claim a first Grand Slam in 27 years in 2005, the first time since the old Five Nations became Six that the title had not been won by either England or France.

It was also only the second time in 11 years - Scotland in 1999 being the other - that one of European rugby's two 'super powers' did not prevail.

Both England and France have won 22 and lost eight of their 30 matches since Italy came into the Six Nations in 2000.

England won the title in 2000, 2001 and 2003, the last occasion yielding a Grand Slam, but have slumped somewhat since their World Cup triumph later that year.

France claimed a Grand Slam in both 2002 and 2004, and only Wales' famous comeback win in Paris last year denied them a third in four years.

Interestingly, Ireland have won only one less match (21) than the 'big two' over the past six years, never finishing worse than third in the Championship, but have only a Triple Crown in 2004 to show for their progress.

Scotland, who memorably won the last Five Nations title, have struggled since the competition expanded, finishing no better than fourth in the past four years, and with only a single victory to their name in the past two.

Italy, the new boys to Europe's showpiece tournament, have found it hard at the top table, winning just three matches to date, and have still to register an away victory.
