Geordan Murphy column

By Geordan Murphy
Ireland and Leicester star

It takes a little time to recover from the type of beating we encountered against New Zealand.

As expected we were all very disappointed after last weekend. Coach Eddie O'Sullivan did not really say too much. He certainly did not have a go at us.

Andrew Trimble will make his Irish senior debut on Saturday
He has brought a fresh approach to the game since his involvement with the squad

He said a few words and voiced his own personal disappointment, but then went on to talk about the positives we could take out of the game and to eradicate the negatives.

Mind you, he did not have to say much. We knew ourselves what went wrong.

For the first couple of days though, when we went back into camp, there were a few drooped heads, but once we got into the swing of things again, the boys soon picked themselves up and got on with the job of planning to face Australia.

It's amazing how the mood changes, it just took one bit of slagging and wit from the usual sources and it was all systems go.

We are now a lot happier with what we have to do and focusing completely on this Saturday.

Eddie has only made one change to the team, but it was something I never really thought about.

But really I did not expect too many changes, maybe one or two more. Eddie has obviously an idea of how he wants us to play.

He picked the players to play a certain game against the All Blacks. But we did not get a lot of ball, and did not play much rugby. I suspect he will be sticking with that vision this week, hoping that we can respond positively.

Anyway, it is great to see Andrew Trimble winning his first cap. Everyone is delighted for him.

They have class in every department, and their backline is awesome

He has brought a fresh approach to the game since his involvement with the squad. He has looked really, really sharp in training.

He is a nice guy and he and Tommy Bowe being the young cubs room together, and are now integrating into the social side of things.

But it certainly will not be easy on Saturday. Alan Gaffney said that he has the best back-line in the world to work with - and it is hard to refute that.

I know they are in a difficult situation at present coming of a record string of loses, but that was against the top teams in the world, and by narrow margins at that.

There is no doubt they will be targeting the game on Saturday as one they can win and break their losing sequence.

They have class in every department, and their backline is awesome. So really they are going to be a huge threat to us.

It is now up to us on the day to play the way we can and prove to everyone that last week was a one-off.
