Michael Horak scored four tries as England cruised to victory at Vancouver's Thunderbird Stadium.

In a rehearsal for next week's Churchill Cup final, England put six tries on the board in an impressive showing.

However, England coach Jim Mallinder felt there was still room for improvement.

"We didn't seem to put too many phases together and full marks to America - it defended well and played well," said Mallinder.

"We want to win this tournament and it takes time for good teams to gel and that is what we'll be looking for the rest of the tour."

London Irish full-back Horak started the scoring in the sixth minute, before tries from Iain Balshaw and Pete Anglesea took England 19-5 clear at the break.

Two tries in the first three minutes of the second half gave Horak his hat-trick, and a fourth came before his substitution 12 minutes from time.

The USA got on the scoresheet through captain David Hodges and Cayo Nicolau, but the kicking of Olly Barkley ensured a comfortable win for Mallinder's side.

"There were a lot of players out there today who showed a great deal of resolve," said US coach Tom Billups.

"They were playing at a speed and intensity that many of them had never played at before.

"We'll try and minimize our mistakes for next week and build on what we have learned."
