The Barbarians have been hit by an injury crisis ahead of their game against Wales on Wednesday.

Seven players have been ruled out after picking up injuries in the heavy defeat against England on Sunday.

Backs Thomas Castaignede, Christophe Dominici, Stephane Glas, and Pieter Rossouw have pulled out, while forwards Naka Drotske, Todd Blackadder and Kupu Vanisi are all out of contention.

Other absentees include All Black stars Jonah Lomu and Christian Cullen and French lock Abdel Benazzi.

Lomu and Cullen have flown home to attend an All Blacks training camp, while Benazzi has suffered a family bereavement.

Newcastle's Doddie Weir and wing Jamie Noon, London Irish's Aussie lock Ryan Strudwick and Leicester centre Ollie Smith have been drafted in as cover.

Williams earns Wales recall

The side will be captained by Pat Lam of Newcastle and Samoa, who will lead the side in what is scheduled to be his last game before retirement.

Newport's Ofisa Tonu'u is among the replacements with Kris Chesney and Kevin Sorrell of Saracens and Newcastle wing Liam Botham.

Further Newport interest is provided by Adrian Garvey on the bench and transfer target Percy Montgomery.
