New Zealand's Black Ferns got the better of their trans-Tasman rival Australia to set up a semi-final clash with France at the Women's World Cup in Barcelona.

France overcame the three-time finalist the United States while England edged out hosts Spain and Canada beat Scotland to set up the second semi-final.

New Zealand's 36-3 win was the most convincing performance of the quarter-finals, as they crossed for five tries.

Six Nations Grand Slam winner France capped a strong season with a 21-9 defeat of USA.

Wales recovered from a first-round loss against Australia to outclass a spirited Germany team at the Women's World Cup in Barcelona.

The Netherlands battled bravely before losing 37-10 to Kazakhstan.

Italy claimed their first victory of the competition with a 30-3 win over Japan.

Samoa had a famous victory over Ireland outmuscling their opponents 22-0.
