Gloucester moved into the European Challenge Cup semi-finals with a seven-try demolition of Brive.

James Forrester started the try-scoring bursting off the back of a scrum, and went over for a second from 30m.

Brive cut the gap with two penalties, but Gloucester's Peter Richards and Mike Tindall both crossed for a 27-6 half-time lead.

Richards grabbed his second after the break, with Andy Hazell and James Simpson-Daniel also on the scoresheet.

Gloucester's cause was further helped by two Brive sin-binnings: Jawad Djoudi after 50 minutes for a deliberate knock-on, and Damien Neveu late on for persistent offside.

Brive did at least score a consolation try with five minutes left, replacement wing Yves Donguy sprinting 60m down the right touchline.

  • Gloucester boss Dean Ryan:

  • "The win was pleasing as it gives us the home tie against Worcester.

"It was very obvious that we had one eye on the future and developing and at the same time trying to get us through knockout football, which is never easy.

"I think it is crucial that we support these young fellows because I'm convinced that long-term dividend is huge.

"There is a risk in the knockout game that some of the mistakes they are going to make happen in that game - but that is the risk we have to be prepared to take.

"Our set-piece was a bit back on track after a couple of shaky weeks, so overall I'm pretty pleased.

"We fought well to ensure they didn't get easy scores and they only breached our line once after a turnover from 70 metres when we should have scored - that was the disappointing bit."
