A brilliant individual try by Brian O'Driscoll gave Leinster a hard-earned victory at Bourgoin on Friday night.

The Frenchmen, however, restored pride following their 92-17 drubbing last week in Dublin with Benjamin Boyet and Jean-Francois Coux scoring tries.

But it was O'Driscoll who stole the show in the second half with two tries, the second a stunning effort to win the game four minutes from the end.

Leinster fly-half David Holwell slotted every kick to contribute 16 points.

Bourgoin shocked Leinster with their ferocity in the opening period as the Frenchmen sought to remove the embarrassment of last week.

Although Holwell landed his first penalty after only three minutes, Bourgoin surged ahead following a period of intense pressure.

First fly-half Boyet danced through some very flaky defence in the sixth minute to score midway out.

Alexandre Peclier converted and then landed a penalty as the game began to warm up in the freezing conditions.

Although Bourgoin finished the half the stronger they only managed another Peclier penalty with Holwell rifling over three exquisite kicks.

Leinster stormed ahead six minutes after the restart when Contepomi carved through the midfield before handing on to O'Driscoll to touch down.

Bourgoin took over the lead again 11 minutes from the end when after Leinster turned over possession a high kick to the wing enabled Coux to get the touchdown ahead of Shane Horgan.

But then came that brilliant individual effort from O'Driscoll when he skipped out of one tackle at pace, and side-stepped Peclier to dive over.

Holwell kept his 100% kicking record with the conversion in landing seven kicks from seven.
