All Blacks make Italians pay
![]() Gareth Morris crosses for the opening try
Neath 56-10 Amatori & Calvisano
A hat-trick of tries from back-row man Steve Tandy helped Neath to a consolation win over the Italian side who embarrassed them last week. Calvisano fell apart under the All Black onslaught, conceding a penalty try, having three men sin-binned and one sent off in an indisciplined display. Wayne Boardman, Gianpiero de Carli and scrum-half Paul Griffen saw yellow before referee Eric Darriere dismissed replacement Daniele Davo for dissent. Neath made the visitors pay with nine tries - three in the first half and six after the break.
Two of his scores came in the opening 40 minutes as Neath built an 18-10 interval lead. Kevin James claimed two tries and Steve Jones, Adrian Durston and Shaun Connor also crossed. Calvisano replied with a touchdown from wing Apenisa Vodo, but they were always struggling against a Neath side who played at a greater pace. The result ended any mathematical chance of the Italians qualifying. In theory, Neath could still make it to the quarter-finals, but that would require a shock much greater than Calvisano's victory last weekend.
